FRI 8/1: SECRET APOLLO CD RELEASE PARTY with ALPHA CHANNEL Multi-colored electric pop from two great bands. DJ Nathan spins after midnight.

SAT 8/2: NORTH BY NORTHPARK MUSIC FEST!!! 3 BANDS + DJs GABE VEGA & SAUL Local jangly popsters LIKE A BIRD, THE MOVIEGOERS & LANTERNS. A $15 wristband gets you into 10 other music clubs where over 100 bands are playing throughout North Park. Visit the site for ticket info. Proceeds go to the SD Music Foundation' who donate music instruments to schools.

SUN 8/3: GET KNIT FACED!!! All levels knitting event - 3 PM One of Whistle's fave events. Ages 21 to 71, bring your kit or buy one here. Every skill level is welcome at this ever-popular knit/craft gathering. Hosted by Knitmaster Jen and 45 rpm soul slinger Tony Suarez.

SUN 8/3: QUIET CREEPS - 10 PM A quiet night from Mario's SKULL KONTROL crew. Co-hosted and bartended by Dan Wise. Cool visuals on big screen. Happens every Sun night.

MON 8/4: KIPPER'S TRIVIA QUIZ NIGHT - 9 PM Take the Trivia Challenge. Cash prizes. Start a team.

TUE 8/5: FRIENDS CHILL - BOARD GAMES a GO-GO!! The famous board-game-and-grooves night. Two big green chests of games are opened, candles are lit, DJs Dub and Marque melt ambient vinyl grooves, and Nintendo flickers on the big screen. Ahhhhh sweetness.

FRI 8/8: ROBIN ROTH presents PUSSY GALORE A night of choice bands and dance music fromTHE VISION OF A DYING WORLD & TEAM ABRAHAM and DJs Robin Roth & Divided by Zach. Special party for Mollytron moving to London. Everyone is welcome.

SAT 8/9: ONE NATION UNDER A GROOVE - DJs Blackstone & Atari

SUN 8/10: CITIZEN VIDEO MOVIE MATINEE: "THE OUTSIDERS" - 4 PM For this month's matinees, we visit greasers, drug thieves and early Matt Dillon. We start off with Francis Ford Coppola's amazing casting job in his adaptation of S.E. Hinton's novel The Outsiders. The film stars Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, Emilio Estevez, Ralph Macchio, Matt Dillon and even Tom Waits. C. Thomas Howell plays the central character who yearns to prove himself and be accepted by his older brothers' gang, while at the same time finding his first love and dreaming of a life beyond his dead-end existence. It's a story that evokes memories of the classic coming-of-age films of the 1950s.

WED 8/20: FILM/FUNDRAISER FOR THE SAN DIEGO WOMEN'S FILM FESTIVAL - 9 PM A special screening of the documentary film "THE GITS", a "rousing and heartbreaking story of Seattle band The Gits, whose promising start was cut short by the tragic murder of spirited lead singer Mia Zapata." The film will be followed by a set from DJ CLAIRE.

THU 8/21: CABOOSE! FREE MID WEEK DANCE NIGHT Of Super Disco with DJs TRAIL MIX-ALOT AND HASHEM.

FRI 8/22: THE DONKEYS CD PARTY! Plus San Francisco's THE SAREES Sounds like a cool country house party. Plus post-midnight afterparty dance til close.

SAT 8/23: BOOTY BASSMENT Over 5 years of house party jams from Dimitri and crew. An epic dance night.

SUN 8/24: CITIZEN VIDEO MOVIE MATINEE: "DRUGSTORE COWBOY" - 4 PM While Ralph Macchio went on to star in the heart-warming "Karate Kid", Matt Dillon moved onto the darker role of a pill addict in "Drugstore Cowboy". Dillon plays Bob, the jittery mastermind of his pharmaceutical heisting ring. Along with him for each heist is his frustrasted wife Diane, his loyal partner Rick and Rick's girlfriend Nadine. "Drugstore Cowboy" is an early entry from director Gus Van Sant and he treats the theme of the addict with more grace than most - making them neither heros nor villians. And a bonus - cult author William S. Burroughs makes a memorable appearance as the aging junkie Tom the Priest.

MON 8/25: DEBASER - ADULTS READ THEIR TEENAGE JOURNALS - 9 PM A fave little night hosted by STAR. See it to believe it. Laugh, cry, drink, repeat.

TUE 8/26: FRIENDS CHILL - EVERY TUESDAY BOARD GAMES & GROOVES

WED 8/27: COMMUNE WEDNESDAYS - Bands, DJs & ART A cool traveling club. Commune returns with HOTEL ST. GEORGE, JERSEY FRESH DJS, ART SHOW, plus limited edition T by Adam & Kimmy.

THU 8/28: ADAM GIMBEL'S TRIVIA QUIZ NIGHT: MUSICAL PURSUIT - 9 PM Turn on your brain for prizes.

FRI 8/29: WRITER CD PARTY + JOEL P WEST, DJS Yancey & Mark. Congrats to a CD party of fine indie pop. Post-midnight dance party til close.
